LocationRensselaer Polytechnic Institute is located in Troy, N.Y., on a 260 acre hilltop campus overlooking the Hudson River. In the midst of a culturally rich population center surrounded by the Adirondack, Catskill, Berkshire, and Green mountains, the Rensselaer campus is only a few hours by car from Boston, New York City, and Montreal. Within easy driving distance from campus, Rensselaer students, faculty, and staff enjoy world-class alpine and cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, sailing, biking, golf, whitewater kayaking, and more. From north, east, south, or west, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is centrally located near major highways in New York state. Directions to the new Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (The Biotech Building)Heading away from Hoosick Street on 15th Street (After taking a right on to 15th from Hoosick): Go straight past Sage Street and under the walking bridge. You will pass the Playhouse on your right and the Student Union and Robison Field House on your Left. Continue past these buildings and the Biotech Center is on your right. It is a large L-Shaped brick building with a modern glass ceiling. Inside on the first floor directly outside the Auditorium Gallery and near the back door, you will find the Conference Registration setup. LodgingThe hotel for this conference will be the Best Western at 1800 6th Avenue in Troy, NY. They will hold the rooms until July 10, so please make reservations before that date. The price is $75 for a single room and $80 for a double, and you can reach the Best Western by telephone at (518)-274-3210. In order to get the aforementioned rates, you need to tell the hotel that you're here with the CAP@RPI Conference. The Best Western is within walking distance from the CAP Conference. Dorm Room AccommodationsUpon arrival, those staying in the dorms may pick up their keys any time between 8:30 am and 11 pm in Room 101 of Sharp Hall. To get to Sharp Hall from 15th street (going East), take a left onto Sage Avenue (North/Uphill). Continue straight, then turn right onto Burdett Avenue. On your right you will see brick buildings and a parking lot. Turn right into the parking lot. Go straight through the parking lot past Nason Hall on your left. Sharp Hall will be on your left in between Davison and Nugent Halls in the courtyard-like space. There are tennis courts behind Sharp Hall. Getting to the Biotech Center from the dorms is easy. When you are facing Sharp Hall (between Davison and Nugent) head right (towards 15th Street). You will pass Robison Field house and the Visitor parking lot and hit 15th Street. The Biotech Center should be directly ahead of you. It is a very large brick building with a glass ceiling. See below for directions to Conference Registration.Directions for Plane or TrainIf you are arriving by plane, fly into the Albany International Airport. By train, travel to the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak Station. Also note that it is possible to fly into any of the New York City airports and take the train right out of Penn Station to Albany. Commercial taxicabs to campus are available from both the train station and Albany International Airport. Yellow Cab Taxi Service is available from the Albany Train Station to RPI for an estimated cost of $22.25 for one person. Capitaland Taxi Service is available from the Albany Airport to RPI for an estimated cost of $23 for one person. Driving DirectionsFrom the South: Take I-87, the New York State Thruway, North to Exit 23. At Exit 23, get on I-787 North to Route 7 East. Follow directions to campus (below). From the North: Take I-87, the Adirondack Northway, South to Exit 7 East. Get on Route 7 headed Eastbound. Follow directions to campus (below). From the East: From I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike, Berkshire Spur of the New York Thruway), take Exit B1. Continue East (13.5 miles) to the exit for I-787. Take I-787 North to Route 7 East. Follow directions to campus (below). From the West: Take I-90, the New York State Thruway, to Exit 24. From Exit 24, continue onto I-90 East. Exit onto I-787 North. Take I-787 North to Route 7 East. Follow directions to campus (below). Directions to Campus and the Biotech Center: From Route 7 East, make a right turn on to 15th Street. Follow 15th Street about 1/2 mile to campus. You can take a left on Sage Street to get to the dorms (See above). Or you can continue straight to get to the Biotech Center where you can pick up parking passes if you paid for them. The Biotech Center is on your right, just past the walking bridge that goes over 15th street. It is a very large and new brick building with a modern glass ceiling (may not be clearly visible from the road). Registration is located on the first floor (you may need to go down one flight depending on where you enter the Biotech Center) towards the back entrance and next to the Auditorium Gallery. Parking around campus may be difficult to find. You can park in the Visitors Information Center parking lot located just past the pedestrian bridge on your left. It may be easier to search for a spot on the more residential side streets that are close to the Biotech Center. |
