Herbert A. Simon, one of the founding fathers of modern AI, is well known for his Logic Theorist and General Problem Solver.  Not only was he a seminal computational logician, but he was also an economist, a political scientist, a computer and cognitive scientist, and a psychologist.  The talk travels back in time to trace Simon’s vision of simulating organizations, and how this dream slowly faded until outright disappearance, gradually evaporating through years of AI evolution.  The talk will explain that “enterprise systems” of today, as wonderful and as useful as they are, are far from the vision of real enterprise systems the AI founders had.  The talk will also touch upon Simon’s profound, Nobel-prize-winning work on “Bounded Rationality,” and his development of Logic Theorist.
